CHARACTER INFORMATION

Name: Tim
Age: 25
Subject taught: Film and Theatre
Canon: Marble Hornets
Canon point: just before the events of Entry #52
Personality:
(Please note this personality section contains spoilers for the entirety of Marble Hornets.)

In a basic manner, Tim is what anyone would expect an overly-stressed college student to be. He can be rather obnoxious at the worst of times, snippy and very, very irritable when someone gets on his bad side. Tim is known for his sarcastic, sharp wit and angry retorts, and rarely does he show any kind of compassion towards anyone once they wrong him in some way. However, he can be grudgingly polite when need be, only inserting small quips when he's becoming stressed. Tim's also anxious around people he's never met, fidgeting when asked questions and avoiding giving certain answers. It can be assumed that Tim does have a nice, pleasant side, but given the circumstances of the series it's easy to forgive him for his near-constant irritablity in canon. However, Tim has shown several times that he's at the very least a helpful person; he agrees to be in a college-made movie despite only being friends with the head actor, he agrees twice to help the protagonist of the series (Jay) finish the movie, and several times provides thoughful, helpful answers to questions, however unnerved the questions may make him. When Jay waits for him outside the mental health clinic he'd been frequenting often, his response isn't, "um, what are you doing here?" but rather, "if I had known you were waiting for me, I would've hurried up in there." Despite his pissy demeanor, Tim is genuinely a nice guy under all the stress and agitation that the plot piles on him. Tim also suffers from a serious illness that has yet to be properly identified, one that causes him pain as well as constant coughing and, on one rare occassion, a seizure. However, this sickness is a direct result of his being stalked by the Operator and may not surface in Rakuen.

One of Tim's direct flaws is that he is a blatant liar. When asked about the events that occurred during the shooting of the original Marble Hornets film, whether he'd seen Alex or Brian, and other different questions (that are made clear later on in the series he is extremely aware of), he lies straight to Jay's face, claiming he has no knowledge of anything. That, in fact, he's kept to himself since the shooting stopped. Whether or not he can be fully trusted remains to be seen, as all of his lies could be interpreted as keeping Jay out of the line of fire.

But in Tim lies a dangerous persona, one that shows no mercy and one that, as of the time being, appears to be seperate from Tim. Tim masquerades as a masked man (affectionally named "Masky" by the fandom) during a fair portion of Marble Hornets, a silent and deadly stalker whose motivations have yet to be seen. As Masky, Tim is ruthless and terrifying. He stalks Jay with little to no remorse and appears to be teamed up with a mysterious character named simply "totheark" in order to terrify Jay with obscure, horrific videos. Masky appears in moments where he is least expected, usually used as a jump scare, and while at first he appears to be targetting Jay, it's later revealed that he is actually targetting the third main character of the series, Alex Kralie. After several instances in which Masky tries attacking them, Alex and Jay manage to subdue him, reveal his true identity, and Alex proceeds to mangle his left leg with a chunk of cement. It would appear that this is Masky's primary motivation for why he keeps attacking Alex, but it's revealed later on that Alex had kept Tim locked in an abandoned building for an unknown amount of time. It is assumed that Tim went crazy during his capture and this is what created the Masky persona. It is this imprisonment that causes Tim to raise the question to Jay:

"How much do you hate? It is not enough."

At the very heart of his character, Tim can be summed up in one word: enigma. Tim's motivations and ideals are in part a basis for the series. What is it that he wants? Who is he protecting? Who is he really fighting for? Why does he do what he does? None of these questions have yet to be answered, but many theories circulate around them. For now, though, it is safe to assume that Tim's primary motive is hatred. Tim hates far more than he does anything else. He hates Alex, he hates the Operator. Tim simply hates. But he hides it well.

One motivation that we can most likely attribute to Tim, however, is that it appears as though he is attempting to keep Jay out of harm's way as much as is physically possible for him. Every action by Masky has caused Jay to flee out of what would be an otherwise extremely dangerous situation (a house in which the main antagonist, the Operator, resides in), attacking Alex when it would appear that he was at his most vulnerable, even going so far as to physically attack Alex while the latter had a gun as a distraction so that Jay could escape. Whether or not Tim's motivations are strictly "protect Jay" or Jay's safety is merely a collatoral for his attacks on Alex is one of the primary mysteries in the series. It would appear this way, however, and we can assume at the very least that he is neither a good guy nor a direct enemy.

It's unknown as of canon whether Tim is suffering from any sort of psychological ailments (most likely post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his capture, which could have very well lasted months) but it can be assumed that he is at the very least mentally damaged and most likely susceptible to panic attacks during boughts of extreme stress. Whether or not he remembers anything has yet to be seen, thought it would appear that he either doesn't, or he was simply lying, which wouldn't be that far of a stretch. However, Tim has shown a few traits of someone suffering from some anxiety-related issue, such as extreme fidgeting under intense stress, avoiding questions, and keeping his distance from other people.

All in all, Tim remains a mysterious character within the mythos and season three promises to provide more information on his background and his motivations. (We can only hope.)
